Subject

Description
Sponsored by the Ambassador Joseph and Mrs. Alma Gildenhorn. One of 50 University of Maryland "Fear the Turtle" painted fiberglass terrapins that were on public art exhibition on campus for Maryland's 150th Anniversary Celebration. While most were on-campus, some appeared in Baltimore and other venues around the state of MD, plus D.C., for six months. They were auctioned off for scholarship money. Artists hailed from Mid-Atlantic region and had a $1,000 budget. Some sculptures, such as College Park Arts Exchange, remain on campus in various locations--not necessarily their original spots.
