Description
Given in Memory of Herbert E. Rycroft II by his Aunt Frances Rycroft Barr and his Colleagues and Friends the Architects of Baltimore. Kaskey taught architecture at the University of Maryland (1969-1976) but was denied tenure, according to Bergen's article. He is famous for the 38-foot hammered copper sculpture, Portlandia (1985), on the Portland Public Services Building in Portland, Oregon--a building exemplary of postmodern architecture. Kaskey also sculpted the lions for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and reliefs for the National World War II Memorial, both in Washington, DC, where the sculptor is based.
